About the Program

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) made available $296 million in federal stimulus money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for state energy-efficient appliance rebate programs for consumers.

A population-based formula was used to determine the amount each state and territory was eligible to receive. Each state and territory was allowed to design its own rebate program, within the guidelines established by the DOE, to select eligible appliances, rebate level, rebate processing and recycling requirements. The March 1 start date was set at the direction of the DOE to provide retailers and consumers adequate time to make informed purchase decisions.

Below are the DOE funding announcement and program guidelines and the information South Dakota submitted in its application for funds.
